Tunnicliffe grew up on a farm in East Cheshire and had a good understanding of farm life, which
was recognised by commercial companies such as Bibby's, ICI, BOCM and Cooper Products.
From the late 1930s he took on commissions to illustrate advertisements for animal feeds,
fertilisers, vetinerary products, farm insurance, dog conditioners, milking machines, etc.
