The Tunnicliffe
Collection at Oriel Môn
In 1981 Anglesey Borough Council acquired a large
collection of work by the late Charles Tunnicliffe.
The work was due to be sold by Christies, but at the last moment funds
from various sources were found to purchase the collection and the sale
was cancelled.
The
collection is now kept at Oriel Môn, where there are more than a thousand
examples of his work, including fifty
of his sketchbooks.
Also included in the collection atare over 350 detailed
measured post-mortem
drawings of birds and animals, together with examples of early work from
his
native Cheshire and work from his student days - plus figure drawings,
architectural drawings,
pencil sketches, pastel work, cartoon drawings, commercial artwork, book illustrations, etchings,
wood engravings & wood blocks, oil paintings, watercolours,
charcoal drawings, scraperboards, etc. Admission is free and there is
ample free car parking.
